audiobooks - the easy alternative to reading
I always loved being read stories as a kid. I still like listening to peoples anecdotes as an adult. When I first was introduced to Audible I thought '...this is my way of reading books without reading!' If you are like me and have a busy life, and no physical time to sit and open a book, audiobooks are the perfect alternative to still get lost in stories whilst being on the go. What's better than listening to your favourite autobiography whilst doing the washing, or cracking up along with your favourite comedian's show whilst walking the dogs? Audiobooks fit around your life. You can listen to them at a time that suits you, and at several times throughout the day, if you like.
I completed 22 audiobooks (maybe more, whose counting?!) in 2018 and I am officially an audible addict. I choose to listen to audio books just before bed - the book being read to me via audio takes me back to being read a bed time story, but as an adult helps me unwind after a massive hectic day. Boo-hoo.
What's better, is Audible via Amazon are giving my audience a free 30-day trial and a free audiobook when you sign up below:
SOLDIER SPY - TOM MARCUS, 2016
Narrated by Jason Langley - what a read! If you are in to books about MI5, MI6 or the military, this is for you. This is written first hand by the author and is an insight into the war being waged by MI5 to keep us safe in our towns and cities. It reveals never before heard detail and gives a chilling view into life on the front line in the battle against terrorism in the UK.
WHY MUMMY DRINKS - GILL SIMMS, 2017
Narrated by Gabrielle Glaister, this novel is so brilliantly written, that even people with no kids (myself included!) will find this absolutely hilarious! It is about a 39 year old 'mum' who does not want to conform to the women with sensible hair-cuts and yoga crazies, instead she prefers to clutch a large glass of Pino and create her own destiny. She musters up a way of separating herself from the mould of 'Mum' and finds that her luck changes... It is written with so much humour and 'yes-girl' moments, I whole heartedly recommend this book to anyone who loves a laugh.
This audiobook is free as part of the Audible free 30 day trial.
The GIRL FROM ALEPPO - NUJEEN MUSTAFA & CHRISTINA LAMB, 2016
This book is an inspiring, true life account of a young girl who escaped her war torn home. Nujeen Mustafa has cerebral palsy, but this did not stop her from travelling over 4,000 miles with her sister, in a wheelchair, from Syria to Hungary. Having taught herself to speak English by watching US soap operas on Syrian TV, she made her way to the Hungarian border to seek asylum in Germany. She tells her story so vividly, and she really gives you a detailed insight into what it's really like to be a refugee and flee her homeland. This truly is the story of our times, written by a remarkable and brave young girl. This read is not for the faint hearted and may contain triggers.
YOU'RE THE ONE THAT I WANT - GIOVANNA FLETCHER, 2014
Giovanna Fletcher's books are hands-down some of the easiest books to listen to on audible. Her popular fiction series are all romantic and funny, relatable and sometimes serious. If you are looking for a book that is going to be warm and cosy, easy to listen to and not too deep, then this is for you. Maddy is about to marry Rob, but her best friend Ben holds deeper feelings for her. Maddy has a choice to make - will she make the right choice? Download it on audible now to find out!
SARAH MILLICAN - HOW TO BE CHAMPION, 2017
Narrated by herself, which makes this book so much better than if she had have subbed it to someone whose accent wasn't the same. Her autobiography will have you in stitches and I even cry-laughed! Make sure you aren't in public when listening to this book! Most of all, by listening to Sarah's autobiography, she will make you feel normal - and probably sniff your leggings! An absolute great listen. Highly recommended.
